Holocaust Memorial Day

London's Liberal Democrat Euro-MP Baroness Sarah Ludford will on Sunday participate in Brent Council's Holocaust Memorial Day Ceremony along with Liberal Democrat colleague Sarah Teather MP.

Vice-chair of the European Parliament's Anti-Racism and Diversity all-party group and Member of the Liberal Democrat Friends of Israel, Sarah Ludford commented:

"Holocaust remembrance is an essential tribute to the memory of Jewish and other victims of Nazi crimes against humanity, and a reminder that the battle against genocide, persecution, prejudice and discrimination is a top priority today."

"This Day must act as a catalyst for addressing the clear and disturbing rise in religiously and ethnically motivated abuse across Europe, including anti-Semitic rhetoric and attacks. The recent Holocaust denial conference held in Iran, absurd as it was, was nonetheless a wake-up call about the dangers of lowering our guard and the need for permanent education about the Shoah."

"Holocaust Day should spur EU governments to make urgent progress on European legislation to combat race and religious hate crime which has been stuck in the Brussels system for the last five years."
