Take part in the EU's 50th birthday!1.20.33pm GMT Mon 4th Sep 2006 The European Parliament, Commission and Council have jointly launched a logo competition to celebrate the 50th anniversary in March 2007 of the Treaty of Rome - the origin of the European integration process. Art and design students and design professionals who graduated in 2006 are being invited to design a logo (by the end of this month) for the EU's official symbol for the 50th birthday. Welcoming this initiative, Baroness Sarah Ludford MEP said: "Despite the gloom of the Eurosceptics, there is plenty to celebrate. The last 50 years have brought peace and prosperity to Europe, as well as a load of practical benefits like more jobs, cheaper flights and mobile phone calls, a cleaner environment and safer food." "It's true that the EU has a challenge to engage with the public across the continent. So events such as this logo competition provide an excellent opportunity for people to get involved. I encourage the many talented young artists and designers across London to take part and aim to win the €6000 (about £4000) prize!" Notes: The deadline for entries is 30th September. The award for the best logo is €6000. There will also be awards for the second and the third best logos of €4000 and €2000 respectively. The three winning designers will be invited to a prize ceremony in Brussels in the autumn. For more information, see www.logo-competition.eu
